Michigan mountain biking! A short clip from an upcoming video series reviewing local mountain bike trails in the Detroit Metro Area. Video features highlights from the trail, GPS route overview, directions to trialhead, and a nice ride with Maddie my Golden Retriever. Hickory Glen Park Trails – Commerce Township, Michigan How to get there? Just east of Benstein Rd off of Glengary Rd in Commerce Township. One lap distance: ~6.5 miles How much time will I need? Figure 45 min-1 hour per lap Elevation gain: 382 feet/lap (easy – few climbs) Physical Difficulty: 2/5 (very little climbing, winding terrain limits overall speeds) Technical Difficulty: 3/5 (man made obstacles provide some fun challenges, but overall not technically difficult. Beginners can bypass the difficult obstacles. Advanced riders can take the obstacles and focus on speed through the corners for additional challenge. Some jumps.) Who should ride this trail: Summary: Someone looking for a fun and winding yet relatively flat trail with enjoyable banked turns and rhythm sections. Some jumps and man made obstacles to polish your technical skills. It would be a good trail for newcomers to the sport. Who should avoid this trail: Someone looking for a demanding workout with climbs and/or high speeds. As a bonus, it’s a good trail to take your dog on! Tips: Follow well marked yellow arrowheads to stay on trail. Song: Cold Funk by Kevin MacLeod
